As part of the Doing Business in a Changing China 2025 summer school programme jointly organised by the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) and the Department of China Studies at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) - 70 students from around the world explored how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the business landscape. Through a blend of immersive teaching and hands-on activities using real-world data, participants gained a deeper understanding of AI’s potential and built their own AI agents, applying them to real business scenarios and decision-making processes.

Launching the AI Business Analytics Journey on the IBSS Trading Floor

On 8 July, the summer school’s AI module was launched on the IBSS Trading Floor – a state-of-the-art facility at XJTLU that simulates real-world financial environments. Special thanks go to Dr Jiatao Liu, Director of the Trading Floor, for his valuable support in enabling this innovative learning experience.

Dr Zihua Liu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance, delivered a dynamic session titled “Business Analysis in the Age of AI.” His lecture introduced students to the logic and mechanisms behind AI, focusing on how these tools create value in a business context.

Students gained hands-on experience using the XIPU AI Platform to build their own AI agents, crafting insightful business analysis reports. Dr Liu also guided students through the art of prompt engineering and encouraged critical thinking around the accuracy and limitations of AI-generated content.

Exploring AI Development and Application in China

On 10 July, Dr Xiangyun Lu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting, delivered an engaging lecture on “AI Development and Application in China,” offering a panoramic view of how AI technologies are rapidly being implemented across various sectors in China—from autonomous driving and service robotics to industrial digital transformation.

Dr Lu explained the inner workings of Generative AI and introduced students to advanced agent-building techniques, such as plugin integration, prompt optimisation, temperature tuning, and nucleus sampling. Through compelling case studies, she demonstrated how AI is not only reshaping industries but also enhancing decision-making and productivity in both professional and person spheres.

Powered by the XIPU AI Platform developed by the XJTLU Learning Mall, IBSS continues to embed AI technology into teaching and learning practices. These two highly practical AI sessions gave students a rare opportunity to engage both the theory and application of AI – developing a robust understanding of its potential and real-world uses in the context of China’s fast-growing AI industry.
